SUNDAY Artist Q&A with Kayla Raquel Middleton

Why are you a photographer?

I’m constantly inspired and challenged by the medium, and by the pursuit of creating meaningful and lasting narratives. Photography continues to energise me through collaboration, working alongside people who are equally passionate and talented.

How would you describe your photography style in a few words?

Quietly cinematic, Observational, emotive and filled with storytelling.

What are your most exhausted sources of inspiration?

I’m inspired by cinema, art, exhibitions, and archival material. I’m equally influenced by culture and travelling to new places — observing light, texture, and atmosphere, as well as how people inhabit spaces.

How would you like people to feel when they see your work?

I’m interested in creating work that feels deeply beautiful and emotionally resonant – offering intimacy and reflection, a sense of nostalgic memory, and a quiet curiosity that pulls the viewer into its world.

How would the people closest to you describe you, in three words?

Open, passionate, caring.
